The Strongman Geoff Capes
The World’s Strongest Man competition developed in 1977, and became the most popular event.
An English citizen, Geoffrey Lewis Capes, was one of the competitors who won the title two times, 1983 and 1985. He stands 197 cm and weighs 150 kg, having made himself a really big man. His strong arms can easily tear and bend steel, and he is a fast runner for his size. He was born on August 23, 1949, in Holbeach, Lincolnshire. He went to high school in George Farmer’s, and became one of the athletes of Holbeach Athletic Club. When he finished studying, he became a coal man, and at the same time a labourer in agriculture loading tonnes of potatoes within twenty minutes. Furthermore, in 1970, Capes joined a police force called Cambridgeshire Constabulary, and stayed for almost 10 years.
Geoff Capes participated in many competitive activities. He won two titles in the Commonwealth Games and in the Indoor European Championship, and was also a shot-putter champion. He’s very much involved when it comes to athletic events, and he has been rewarded for gaining numerous achievements.
In 1980, Capes became a professional, and gained five titles from World Highland Games and other contests in Britain and Europe. His good image grew with excellent performances in the World’s Strongest Man contest, and some strength competitions.
Geoff Capes is really known for his strength that got him featured in several scenes like games and TV appearances. He decided to retire in 1987. However, he is continuously involved in sports matters. He trained amateur athletes and became a referee in UK strength contests.
