Get to Know More About Bruce Wilhelm: The World’s Strongest Man ’77 and ’78
Bruce Wilhelm, born on July 13, 1945, was a weightlifter and a strength athlete from the United States. He won the title for The World’s Strongest Man competition in it’s inaugural launching in 1977, and again in 1978. He was also an executive board member of United States Olympic Committee.
As a young man, Wilhelm was engaged in various sports such as shot put, discuss throw, wrestling, and track and field. In order to develop more of his skills, Wilhelm pursued his training at Stanford University. He already set many different American records in sports, such as winning the Olympic lifting in Senior and Junior National Championships, and National AAU Track and Field Championships fourth or fifth place for quite a few years (1969-1974). He was a member of the United States Olympic Team in the Olympic super heavyweight lifting division in 1976.
Due to his interest in sports, Wilhelm was affiliated with different organisations such as the Athletes Advisory Council, where he worked for eight years; the Substance and Drug Abuse Committee; the Sports Medicine Committee; and the Games Preparation Committee. He worked as a commentator on Olympic weight lifting for ABC Wide World of Sports since 1978. He also loves to write his opinions regarding drugs/steroids involvement in training, articles on various athletes, and different aspects of working out. He had been a commissioner of strength on the Worlds Strongest Man TV show for three years.
