Venues: World’s Strongest Man’s Witness
For almost 30 years, the strongest men around the world have come together in the unique tests of strength to discover who deserves to claim the prestigious title “The World’s Strongest Man.” This competition has travelled to wonderful places such as Zambia, Iceland, Mauritius, Malaysia, Morocco and China.
In 1977 and 1978, at Universal Studios in California, Bruce Wilhelm happened to be the first person to claim the title of the World's Strongest Man. In 1980 and 1981, the competition was held in Great George, New Jersey. In 1982, the event took place in Magic Mountain, California. In 1983, it was in Christchurch, New Zealand, where Geoff Capes became the first non-American to receive the award. Iceland's Jon-Pall Sigmarsson, with his extraordinary personality, carried him to four championships between 1984 and 1990. The event was held in various places: Sweden, Portugal, France, Hungary, Spain, Nevada, USA, Morocco, and in Malta. Magnus Ver Magnusson, considered by many to be the first contemporary strength athlete, beat the four titles of his Icelandic fellowman. In 1994 he won at Sun City, Africa; 1995 at Bahamas; 1996 at Post Louis, Mauritius. Between 1997 and 1999, Finland's Jouko Ahola earned a couple of championships. In 2002, Mariusz won at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and in 2003 at Victoria Falls, Zambia, but he was defeated in 2004 by Ukraine's Vasyl Virastyuk at Paradise Island, Bahamas. The Polish strongman returned to the top in 2005, at Chengdu, China. In 2006, the contest was conducted at Sanya, China; 2007 at Anaheim, USA, and 2008 at West Virginia, USA.
These places serve as the witness to the victory of these strongmen.
